Obituary of Richard David Gibbons

GIBBONS – Richard David (Dick):  The Montreal Canadians have lost a very devoted fan.  He passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Norview Lodge after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease, in his 84th year.  Son of the Late Jack and Sylvia (Stevens) Gibbons.  Much beloved husband for 62 years of Rene Gibbons (Cymbalisty).  Loving father of Rick and Rob (Gina).  Loving Gampy of Kelsie and Kyle.  Also surviving are his brothers Vic Gibbons (Lenore) of Simcoe and Jack Gibbons (Kathy) of Montreal, numerous nieces and nephews.  Dick started his career with the Bank of Montreal in both Simcoe and Delhi and ending with Wills Motors Delhi after 40 years.  He was named citizen of the year in 1999 and was inducted in the Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition in 2006.  A fixture in Norfolk athletics since 1948 he played baseball, hockey and golf.  Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as a prospect he also played hockey with the Delhi Rocket 88’s and later moved into coaching.  The South Coast Special Needs Association was fortunate enough to catch his attention and heart where he was active as a coach.  Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 2 – 5 p.m. at THE BALDOCK FUNERAL HOME, 96 Norfolk St. N., Simcoe.  A private interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in the family plot.  Those wishing to make a donation in Dick’s memory are asked to consider Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario, Simcoe and District Humane Society or Norview Lodge Work of Heart.  Online condolences at www.baldockfuneralhome.com
