Obituary of Sylvia Margaret McManis

 McMANIS – Sylvia Margaret: Peacefully at The Norfolk General Hospital with her family at her side on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Daughter of the late Alma and Arthur Doan. Much beloved wife of Richard (Dick) McManis for over 71 years. Loving mother of Dale McManis-Edmonds (Mike), Cathy Stewart (Brian), Rick (Janet), Paul (Brenda) and was predeceased by her daughter Donna Griffths (Kevin). Cherished grandmother of Micaela (Marco), Ryan (Ashleigh), Carole (Craig), Craig (Jennifer), Nicole (Rob), Erin (Jake), Sarah and great grandmother of Megan, Emily, Leland, Lauren, Sammy and Mariah. Dear sister of Gwen Playter (Bud) and niece Leanne and was predeceased by niece Carol. Sylvia was an avid swimmer, cross country skier and multitalented artist who was a lifelong volunteer. She contributed to the Girl Guides, the Peter Pan Players, the Simcoe Panorama, the Simcoe Figure Skating Club and Simcoe Little Theatre where she was the longtime Technical Director. Sylvia directed over 40 shows including 10 years of Olde English Music Hall. She worked for a pool company, a dentist and as an art teacher with young offenders. Sylvia launched the Black Cap Players and directed the company designing and building countless numbers and props for over 28 years. She was a Melvin Jones Fellow, an honor given to her by the Simcoe Lions Club for her many contributions to the club as Lions Show Stage Manager and to recognize her many contributions to the community. Sylvia was also a recipient of Provincial Outstanding Volunteer Awards. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be welcomed to join the family for a Celebration of Sylvia’s Life to be held in the spring at Simcoe Little Theatre.
