Obituary of Margaret Lynn Cairns

 

Margaret Lynn Cairns (Lynn) passed away at Stamford Estates in Niagara Falls on January 17th 2019 at the ripe old age of 88.  Lynn Livingston was born in the northern community of Blind River on October 9th, 1930. Lynn was the first of five children to James Livingston and Marjorie Atkinson.  Soon after Lynn’s birth, the family moved to the southern community of Port Rowan, Ontario where the family opened and ran the local pharmacy up until the mid-sixties. During that time Lynn had to share her parents’ attention with siblings Kendall, Ruth, Peter and Mike.  Lynn married William (Bill) Cairns on September 21st, 1949 and moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Bill’s home town. Lynn had three sons; Rick, Stephen and Rob who all attended Stamford CVI high school. After seeing her sons through their formative years she returned to school. Lynn became a teacher at Princess Margaret School in Niagara Falls after graduating from Brock University teachers college in 1981.  Lynn enjoyed reading, playing bridge, going to theatre and in her younger years enjoyed hosting and attending dinner parties and dances with a close knit group of friends. Lynn was notorious for having a sweet tooth and was affectionately known as the ice cream grandma to her grandchildren and as the jellybean grandma to her great grandchildren. To her numerous nieces and nephews so was known for her quick wit and her sense of humour.  Lynn is survived by her brothers Peter and Mike, her sons Rick, Stephen and Rob; By their spouses Val, Carol and Wan, respectively; By her grandchildren Kate, Courtney and Brett and; By her great grandchildren Will, Luke and Niah.  Lynn will be sorrowfully missed.
