Obituary of Peter Vanderkooy

VANDERKOOY – Peter:  Passed away at Foxridge Nursing Home in Brantford on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in his 90th year.  He has joined his wife in Heaven. Much beloved husband of the Late Elisabeth VanRuijven/Vanderkooy (2018) for 64 years. Loving father of Bernadina Vanderkooy – Bilinsky and her husband Mike.  Cherished grandfather of Bradley Bilinsky (Agnes) and Wesley Bilinsky (Sadie) and great-grandfather of Claire.  Peter was predeceased by his 3 brothers, Leo, Chris, and Joop. Peter was a respected member of the community of Norfolk County. He emigrated with his wife in 1956 from the Netherlands and they established a successful sign business called “Prestige Signs” from 1960-1999. He had many clients spread out across Southern Ontario. He was the best at his career as a commercial artist lettering trucks and boats, making electric, magnetic and engraved signs all by hand. He was the first in the county to use computerized cut out letters adding his own artistic flair to each sign. He was president of the European Social Club, and member of the Rotary and Lions Club. Peter was the happiest when he was boating on the Lake Erie and travelling around North America in his motorhome. He will be missed by all. Cremation has taken place.  There will be a family Celebration of Life at a later date with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Those wishing to make a donation in Peter’s memory are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Online condolences at www.baldockfuneralhome.com.
