On behalf of Margrie and the entire Gunton family we offer our sincere condolences. "Cousin" David as he was referred to in our family led a remarkable life serving our country and researching the history of the Jarvis, Austin, and Gunton families.
Our father , Dr Ramsay Gunton got to know David well while he studied at Western and stayed over at the Gunton home in London . They shared a life long mutual respect of each other and would re connect at Port Ryerse when ever David visited.
As a young boy I can remember the fascinating tour he gave us of the HMSC Sageunay while he was serving as the commanding officer. In later years I enjoyed listening to his stories of family history in Simcoe at Aunt Margaret and Alice's house. Ever the gentleman he was polite and diplomatic when Margaret and Alice would "occasionally" disagree on a date or element of the family tree!
I remain in awe at Davids hard work and determination in researching and writing the GOGS book in an era that predated the internet and digitized census data. It remains a truly a remarkable piece of work that has enabled many family members to connect with their historical roots in an interesting and informative way.
Doug Gunton (Toronto) and also on behalf of Margrie Gunton(London)

To the family of David Avery
I was saddened to read in the Globe and Mail of David Avery's passing.
I had the privilege of serving with him in HMCS Provider in 1968 and 1969. As one of several junior officers in a ship with lengthy periods at sea and in a wardroom known for its highjinks, Commander Avery was a model of dignity and professionalism. His contribution to our development as naval officers was exemplary. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Yours aye
Robert
